Shampoo Bar

shampoobar2I have been wanting to try a shampoo bar for a while now and finally found the time and ingredients to do so. Commercial shampoos are riddled with tons of unnecessary and harmful chemicals that make me squirm with unease every time I have to squeeze a little dime-sized drop into my palm. This shampoo bar, however, is made with all natural ingredients and leaves me with a clean, guilt-free feeling after each wash.

For those of you who are thinking, “Shampoo bar? How does that work?” let me just tell you it works wonderfully. All you do is rub the bar between your hands to create a nice lather, run your hands through your hair, scrub, and Ta-Da!

If you have never used a shampoo bar before though, it does leave your hair feeling different and a little weird if you’re not expecting it. That being said, use with an open mind and use for at least a week to get used to it before making any serious judgments.

Also be sure to use a conditioning agent afterward. I use an apple cider vinegar rinse (1 part apple cider vinegar to 3 parts water). I keep a bottle of it in my shower and when I’m done shampooing I just squirt some of that in my hair and run it through with my fingers. I don’t rinse it out. Having vinegar in your hair smells a little strange at first, but as your hair dries the smell dissipates and leaves it feeling silky soft. I love the way my hair feels and love that I don’t have to worry about what crazy toxins are seeping into my scalp.

Next time I make this I think I will try using different essential oils for a different smell.

Ingredients: coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, jojoba oil, shea butter, cocoa butter, beeswax, coconut milk, rosemary and peppermint essential oils.
